By far the most popular option is the Foal Birth Alarm Lite.  This is a non invasive alarm, that works by detecting the unique movement your mare makes when having her first contractions.  It then sends an SMS message to 2 mobile or landline phones, letting you know that the moment has arrived.  This allows you to be there when you are needed, to make sure all goes smoothly.  The alarm can be used as many times as you like, and you can re-program the phone numbers, as required.  You can easily fir the alarm yourself.  The alarm fits easily to a halter, or to a girth.

The Classic Birth Alarms are for those who do not want the hassle of a mobile phone.  These alarms go directly to a receiver that you have in your house.  

The foal birth alarms are very reliable and have been around since the 1990s.  They are used by professionals and amateurs.
