New for 2025 - the Wahl KM Supera Horse and Dog clipper

New Wahl KM Supera Cordless Horse and Dog Clipper

Here's yet another all-in-one cordless clipper, new for 2025.  This style of clipper is getting increasingly popular and we can understand why!  With batteries becoming more powerful, technology has moved on.  You can now clip and trim a whole horse, with 'regular hair' (not Cushings or really coarse hair) with just one small machine.  Forget tensioning blades, forget having a mains lead, forget having hand ache half way through the clip.  These machine are smaller, lighter and quieter.  They have low vibrations and the blades are easy to snap on and off.  Most of this type of clipper takes the A5 style blade, that comes in both the narrow and wide format and is easily available from a number of brands, with a number of clipping lengths available.  It's easy to see why people with just 1 horse is opting for these smaller machines and saving money at the same time.

Up until now, the main machines have been the Heiniger Saphir (available in a number of colours and with different blades but basically al the same thing) and the less powerful but cheaper Liveryman Harmony Plus.  Then Heiniger introduced their Opal (2 -seeds, even lighter and amazing to use).  Wahl then cottoned on and at the end of 2024 introduced the Wahl KMC+ Cordless clipper.  The KMC+ is great because it has lots of power and 2 speeds.  BUT, it is quite loud when compared to the Opal, Saphir or Harmony Plus, and the battery is internal meaning if the battery goes you need a new clipper.  So....just a few months later Wahl has introduced the KM Supera.  This clipper comes with 2 batteries that can be removed and eventually replaced.  It only has the standard 1 year warranty, but it does have 2 speeds (slightly slower than the KMC+ but still very good) and it is nice and light.  The price of the KMC+ and the Supera is quite close, so it may be hard to chose between them.  Personally, I prefer the feel of the Supera.  With this said, the KMC+ is probably the better deal because it comes with 2 blades!  Basically, it is a close call.  They will both do the same job, they both take the same type of blade.  If the weight of a clipper concerns you, then definitely go with the Supera (not that the KMC+ is heavy because it is still much lighter than a full size clipper, but there is a noticeable difference between the Supera and the KMC+).  If you are looking for the best value, the KMC+ might edge it!

Or, you can look at the top of the line Heiniger options, or the more budget less powerful Harmony Plus.  They all work for dogs too!
