There is no doubt that it is essential to oil your horse clippers and animal clippers.  Oil helps preserve the life of your blades and clippers, and also helps to prevent the blades from over-heating.  Many advise adding a good squirt of oil to the blades every 5 – 10 minutes, which works, but seems to waste an awful lot of oil on the first stroke and leaves the blades quite dry by the end of the 5 minutes .  Our preferred technique is to add just a few drops of oil every two strokes of clipping.  This uses the same amount of oil by the end of the clip, but constantly lubricates the blades.  Once you’ve got into the routine of it, it is easy to do and makes for a better clip!

Lister clippers come with 60ml of oil, which should last for 2 to 3 clips of a horse.
