It’s always a good idea to have a warning sign on your electric fence.  In fact, in the UK if your electric fence is in a position that means it could be touched by the general public whilst they are on a road or a foot path you have an obligation to fit a warning sign so that they are made aware that the fence is live and will hurt.  Signs must be placed every 50 meters.

While electric fences are usually safe for people and animals, they can be dangerous for people with pacemakers and other conditions, and a warning sign is a sensible and affordable precaution.
